FirstNet’s Preferred Connectivity to public cloud includes
Microsoft Peering and ExpressRoute
-
FirstNet peers directly with Microsoft at Teraco Rondebosh and Teraco Isando guaranteeing throughput with predictable latency.

-
FirstNet provides the port – all your data transfer on the Microsoft network will be billed to you directly by Microsoft.
ExpressRoute is a service offered by Microsoft Azure that provides a private connection between an organization's on-premises infrastructure and Azure data centers. This direct, dedicated connection bypasses the public Internet, providing increased security and reliability for mission-critical workloads. Additionally, because the traffic between the organization and Azure does not traverse the public Internet, it can help to reduce latency and improve performance compared to using a standard Internet connection.
By selecting a Microsoft Azure Peering Services partner, you are selecting a service provider which is well connected to the Microsoft network through high-capacity connections. These high-capacity connections are optimized for high throughput and better latency at an edge location that is close to the user. In addition, these connections are engineered for High Availability (HA) which is necessary for Service level agreements.
Direct Connect is a private connection between AWS and infrastructure at your customer premises or in a co-location environment. Direct Connect provides a consistent experience to AWS as opposed to the latency fluctuation over a VPN on a public network.
